The bed bug, scientifically named Cimex Lectularius, is a small, reddish-brown insect that relies on human blood for nourishment. About the size of an apple seed, these pests commonly reside in the seams of mattresses, box springs, and crevices of furniture. They are nocturnal by nature and can hide in fabric folds, electrical outlets, and behind picture frames.
Bed bugs undergo five nymphal stages before becoming adults, requiring a blood meal to transition between stages. Female bed bugs can lay around five eggs each day in secluded locations. These pests can live for several months without a meal. Although bed bugs don’t transmit diseases, their bites can cause itching and trigger allergic reactions.
The tropical bed bug, Cimex Hemipterus, is commonly found in warmer climates. Similar to the widely known Cimex lectularius, these pests feed on the blood of humans and animals. They are small, reddish-brown, and typically measure about 4-5 mm long. Their oval, flattened bodies make it easy for them to hide in small crevices.
